This morning I was listening to NPR as they discussed Mayor Nutter's proposal to tax sugary drunks such as soda, juice drinks and chocolate milk to generate revenue as well as curb obesity. Having pretty effectively switched to diet when I became diabetic several years ago I've been kinda out of the loop on exactly how bad these suckers can be for you. A 20 oz bottle has the equivalent of 24 sugar packets!!!! The doctor they interviewed on the show said that if the average person reduced their intake to only 2 or 3 times a week they could shed pounds in a year. Pounds, without even exercising. My challenge to you Sarah, is to go cold turkey. Give yourself a week to prepare for it, and then it should be all diet and water. Every time you eat something with a sugary soda you are  doubling the caloric intake. Remember how much I loved Coke in High School? Well I got over it and so can you. Diet isn't so bad, and water is even better. Go out and buy yourself an adorable, reusable water bottle. When you are jonesing for some caffeine, just make the simple switch to diet. It may still not be that great for you, but it's better than packing on pounds for something that doesn't fill you up. Doing this is such an easy way to make yourself healthier that it just seems silly not to.
