tricksy flowers

off-white tank- j jill (obviously a giftie from mommy)
high-waisted red rose flouncy skirt- urban outfitters
shoes- bronx sandals

i can usually fool people into thinking i'm well dressed with floral patterns. i don't know what it is, but everyone compliments me when i wear this skirt, even though today i looked like a big ol' slob. (but hey, i was cool)

wednesday.

floral top-old navy
black pencil skirt- forever 21

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!!!

lil bit scruffy

dice shirt- swiped from 99 after he bought it at buffalo exchange then realized it was too small
skirt- american apparel

not much to say. was hot, so i tried to keep it cool.

oh no tequila

blue t shirt dress-old navy
satin two-tone heels- steve madden via sound feet or barefeet or some other awesome shoe store with a boring name (rampant in philadelphia)
clutch- sparkly floral gift from my sarah b.
so my oyster house temperance gave way four hours later to some free tequila and a handful of boilers at the cantina where i was persuaded to go after being in a foul mood at skeevy landlord mcgee and also to celebrate getting all my student loans from the guhvment instead of having to sell myself to that bitch sallie mae. anyway, the oysters were good, my dress was blue, the cantina company was FABULOUS and last night turned out okay.

11th Grade Literature that I CAN NOT LET GO OF

I was reading my bloggie blogs tonight when I came across Loveship and Susie was talking about Marina Abramovic whose recent work was a 3 month long performance at MoMA, Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.

It appears she sat in front of a table and as a visitor you could sit across from her. They have portraits of every visitor who took the second chair and the amount of time spent across from Marina. Then I saw this GEM of a picture and Q: what imagine did it conjure up?

A: If you answered William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" you are correct! The only thing missing a pillow with a “long strand of iron-gray hair.” Poor Homer Barron.

full moon, rose and details

so i finished the name of the rose (although, come to think of it, i haven't really sorted out the title) which left me bookless on the train. I had some time to peoplewatch, and man, was it good. I had the closing shift at work on a full moon saturday. a 10 o'clock train to south philadelphia yielded the following amazing outfit details (with one exception from today):

clockwise from top left-
1. acid green rhinestone covered big toe
2. pink halter top with black and cream bra straps
3. big ass gem earrings that totally blinded onlookers from a truly hideous tank dress
4. Disney Princess luggage tote being wheeled by ancient asian man who i'm pretty sure was also wearing a 'mature woman's' cotton hawaiian print top
5. brave lil' sunflower sarah bought at the urban jungle after pope brunch
6. drunk, loud, frat boy with a solo cup and a wristband who said the usual banal things about pussy and beer BUT WAS WEARING CAT FACE PAINT
7. truly excellent ruffle sleeves on a khaki colored dress that i wish would migrate to my closet (or suitcase, as the case may be)

A more subtle look for my eyes.

Ignore how my nice camera makes my pores the size of craters. And my hair.
I used NYX Geisha, NYX Milk Jumbo Eye pencil, NYX Rocky Mountain Green Jumbo Eye Pencil and a smudge of NYX Green Candy Glitter Liner.

Make Up Geek

Lately I have had a lot of interest in learning different ways to do my make up. At my hairdresser's suggestion I checked out the multitude of blogs and Youtube videos dedicated to makeup. I came across Makeup Geek who has her own store where you can buy products she uses as well as samples of some of the more expensive stuff. I bought some of the Ben Nye pigment samples to try this Hawaiian look. Yep, its a work in progress. I definitely need some more practice.

This or That

Oh Joy has a category This or That. The problem is always This is amazing and That is equally kick butt. So its choosing the better of the two fashionables. The above has been one of my favorites from this summer. What if you were faced with an obvious choice? And with that I'm off for a burrito!

Living In: Debbie Does Dallas

Are you a fan of Design*Sponge blog? Yeah, so am I. I am a big fan of their category "Living In." They take a movie and show current items you can purchase based on either actual or inspired items from the movie. Now one complaint is you get a lot of victorian movies, the last few being Young Vicoria, Girl with the Pearl Earring, Pride and Prejedice and Picnic at Hanging Rock. Though I was a HUGE fan of Sixteen Candles, Frida and of course sent the Jaws one to Kathleen as a reminder to The Summer of Sharks. I thought I'd try my own spin at Living In, and pay homage to the golden age of porn.

Show me your teeth.

"Don't be scared. I've done this before. Show me your teeth. Show me your teeth!"
So since I got the full Lady Gaga album months ago I am pretty much in love with ALL of the songs. Such a rarity. One of her songs, Teeth, has a constant line of "Shoe me your teeth." Well since it is Lady Gaga I used to think about Vagina Dentata, which is latin for toothed vagina. There is even a movie, Teeth, about a girl who has vagina dentata. After attending the amazingly entertaing Lady Gaga show last week I learned that she is referring to when you are angery and you kinda growl with your [mouth] lips up and show your teeth. In my mind I still like to thing this song is about vagina dentata.

I heart underthings

black strapless bra- h and m
red lace bra/bustier-h and m
pink striped victoria's secret underwear- model's own

Okay I don't really, because bra shopping is a drag, but i tell you what, finding a sexy bra is an instant mood lifter. i tried on a couple today at h and m and bought the top one as i desperately needed a strapless bra. I also like in this changeable day and age that you can almost always get a strapless bra with detachable straps, just in case. ugh i broke my own rules and used the word strap or some variant like six times in one sentence. apologies.

black dress, white plate

dress- issac mizrahi for target, thrifted with sarah from the st louis goodwill
shoesies-same ol same ol bronx tan and reds from La De Da

So there i am in my simple dress, probably the most flattering silhouette i've ever gotten from an article of clothing, thanks to the genius that is Issac Mizrahi (yes i will make you gowns!) even for target. i drew it on a magazine article, liking the print, which is why there is a giant and distracting piece of spinach to my left.

Slug Poop.

1. Make up and Beauty Blog 2. MissChievous 3. Make up and Beauty Blog

I'm sorry but some of these Fall 2010 Nail Colors are like slimmy slug poop. The second two are China Glaze and the first one is Barielle. To be fair the first one looks more like slug that is dissolved by salt (see the little glitter crystals).

Accessorize

so i tend to fall in love with the various accoutrement of an outfit and, as can be attested by my goggled eyed wonder in those shops that dot south street and sell rows upon rows of rhinestone goodies, i love a bit of sparkle-but overall i'm not terribly good at adding the complimentary bracelet to make an outfit. (what a long sentence! can you tell i'm reading Eco? he has lists for PAGES) Instead i prefer to wear a few good things on a daily basis. you can tell from my picturs that i have on a particular necklace from a particular gent every day, but i also have a ring he gave me that i wear on the daily. this you don't see because i'm terrible at drawing hands. so this is my tribute not to my auxiliary accessories, but to my vital necessities.

Nightie night

dress- BCBG by way of Ross with iele
kicks- same ol' urban outfitters canvas sneakers

okay so this dress is beautiful and so comfortable, even though it vaguely reminds me of a nightgown. not such a bad asset when you wake up still drunk and have to stumble through a rite- aid looking for one of those double shot trashy starbucks drinks. the color is pretty neat too; on the tag it was described as evergreen and putty. putty doesn't sound attractive, and honestly i'm not making much about this outfit or day seem glamorous, but really, neither was too shabby.

Gin.

Dress- DKNY (thrifted, obvi)
Shoes- Coconuts for Matisse (i think a J.C. Penny brand) thieved from Mom
Gin- all over the place

okay so yesterday i went simple with a grey t-shirt dress and a pair of brown gladiators cause i wanted to accessorize with ALL THIS BOOZE. miz sarah b. and i went to the oyster house for dinner and had a dozen dollar oysters on the half shell each and it is like my new favorite summer food. i just want to be cool and boozy and sucking down frigid, slimy salty things. We also went on an impromptu gin crawl in which things got a bit messy. But who doesn't love sassy girls blitzed on gin? (apparently a man in a blazer who we didn't seem to like very much though we can no longer recount why)

Things of mine I like

I think I am good at doing my eyeshadow. This is from this morning. It doesn't look as dramatic as it was. I'm kinda obsessed with learning new techniques at the moment.

Everybody's workin for the weekend

Saturday @ 10 am- top found in college giveaway box, embroidered wraparound renaissance faire lookin' skirt La De Da, bag 7-11. @ 12- same shirt, cut-off Chip and Pepper jeans, Betmar collapsible sun hat, Book by Umberto Eco. @ Night- same express shirt as Friday, same American Apparel skirt but in red, Bronx sandals from La De Da

Sunday- DIY dollar-store headband with fake flower leaves superglued on, urban outfitters floral dress, red Bronx sandals

Okay so i did a twofer and included my saturday and sunday on the back of a postcard in my tearaway edward gorey day planner. i'm trying to figure out how to make these look more cute and less ridiculous, but i suppose that's a fine balance when you are documenting your cartoon alter ego. anyway, saturday was so godawful hot that i changed about thirty times. (okay three, but still alot!) and today is getting almost unbearable, which is why i wore my favorite summer braless-cotton shift dress EVER. major bummer equals my camera battery dying, so this is kinda an eh picture.

jersey minus snookie hair

no not that jersey, this jersey:

top-Express
skirt-American Apparel
kicks-Urban Outfitters
bag-high school creative writing teacher's Liz Claiborne bag salvaged from trash can
bracelet- Clark Park flea market stall, purchased on my 25th birthday

the soft kind. craving soft and flowy today. lots of neutral also- beige, black, white brown and grey. In my quest for more accurate fashion terminology i've included a diagram explaining what i think is the difference between a trapeze shirt and a sharkbite tank. if i'm correct, what i wore was more of the trapeze ilk.

DIAGRAM A.

all american doodle

bad title, since you can't tell from this that i wore red white and blue today, but just use your imagination. and ignore that today my tattoo came out looking like a butterfly (or a cock) and that my left leg is on a diet. i'm working on accepting my imperfections, remember? although, i will say that the camera does add ten pounds. someday i will scan the original drawing and you will be shocked at how svelte my pictorial self is compared to this.

hair clip- forever 21
dress-Roanoke Goodwill (my favorite place EVER)
shoes- La De Da, three years ago but recently repaired at Dom's

What Kathleen drew

Dress- H & M Sneaks- Urban Outfitters Scarf- Nicked from my mom

A new series of posts wherein i draw what i wear every day. i'm hoping this will a. somehow cure my addiction to fashion blogs and the subsequent icky feeling i get at not being a well-heeled photogenic american goddess b. will make me doodle a bit every day, which iis a task i enjoy with the pleasure of someone who loves what they're doing even when they aren't good at it and c. to give a little chronicle to my love who is currently far, far away.

Sample of actual dress fabric and jolly roger tattoo.

Scarves!

So today I learned about using a sock to make your bun bigger. I'm feeling pretty stoked because I looked at the fashion book for the next Sex and the City movie and now a. i don't have to pay to see the movie and b. can replicate some pretty amazing Carrie head wraps. anyway, i'll post about that later. The point is, I'm feeling into buns and scarves. Especially scarves. Let's look at some women who rock them like nobody's business, and also me, looking kinda washed out in a scarf left at my house by the lovely emily wexler, who i hope doesn't want it back because if kim catrall can throw on a six thousand dollar scarf and aim for Mary of Nazareth, i think i can sure give it a go.
